Marillier is one of my favorite authors and specifically the Sevenwaters trilogy is one of her best. Sevebwaters 29, Mayim de Vries rated it liked it. I loved this story. I’m starting to realize that if I have a problem with this which I really doI should probably stop reading Marillier’s books. But the moment she is marred by suspicions not even backed by solid form of evidence, all this vanishes like a morning mist. There was one unresolved question I had after I finished it. Along the way, she meets a soul-mate in the form of Cathal, a prickly young man, given to sarcasm and sudden changes in mood.

I would hold her so close she’d beg me to let her breathe. Clodagh is strong in a very different way than the daughters of Sevenwaters who came before her, but sh I’ve said it before, but each time I re-read a book of Sevenwaters it feels just like coming home for me. At the same time her father is preparing to host a council of warring chieftains and dealing with the possibility that his son-in-law is plotting against the alliance.
Families stick together against the external dangers, against the ills, against the troubles. Burned in a horrible accident as a child, Maeve is reluctant to return to the place of so many difficult memories and expectations.
I did like that this one was more “Otherworldly” than the others. She must separate truth from lies, and decide whether to follow the path the Fair Folk set for her, or make her own way, though her own path may lead to extreme danger, broken alliances and friendships, and a broken heart. Heir starts a new arc for this series and though I’ve never fallen as deeply in love with a novel as I did for Daughter of the Forest or Son of the Shadows, Heir to Sevenwaters is still beloved by me.
