I highly recommend it; at least pagesif scbmemann not planning on reading the whole book. One chapter near the end about fasting blew my mind. It is helpful to anyone wishing to observe this time In A deeper, more worshipful way. And it is this vision, the foretaste of Easter, that makes Lent’s sadness bright and our lenten effort a “spiritual spring. This is very comforting to know going forward. It does offer some ideas on different things to give up, and extra devotions to make.

I especially appreciated the first section where Fr. He so clearly outlines the secular way of life to the sacramental living in Orthodox life – although he apparently says far more about this in “for the life of the world” I greatly look forward to reading this!

Every page of this book opens new truths to the soul and reveals gifts and graces that should never be forgotten. This was a book that I intent to read every Lent. My favorite of all Schmemann’s books–here he is at his most lyrical and insightful, indeed joyful.
