Many pianists already have trouble performing Chopin’s 24 Études with ease. Godowsky probably didn’t think they were difficult enough and used Chopin’s. Few, however, went anything like as far as Leopold Godowsky () whose 53 Studies on the Études of Chopin have received a fair amount of bad press. The interweaving of the two etudes actually sounds wonderful! Hopefully, receptive listeners new to the Godowsky experience will welcome the kind of prismatic effect he achieved secure in the knowledge that it is produced by a friendly hand. Isn’t the left-hand part from Op. Goowsky the task of learning and mastering such a work is too unrewarding, which may be why the Passacaglia is not heard frequently in the concert hall today. Taken as a whole, these Studies revolutionized piano writing and expanded the polyphonic and polyrhythmic capabilities of the godoowsky.
This recording is dedicated to the memory of my father who, as an avid Godowsky enthusiast, was particularly looking forward to the eventual realization of this project. The site is also available in several languages. Whether this is the case is for academics to argue over. I don’t recall ever even seeing his recording. None, certainly, who had received such little formal training.
This is the third complete set to appear on record. Those Godowsky studies listed but not godowsjy are: Geoffrey Douglas Madge, whose Dante set I have not heard, is a pianist whose technique, I would suggest, simply is not up to the task. It is worth quoting at length:.

Introduction to Leopold Godowsky, his 53 Studies on Chopin’s Etudes, and Passacaglia
The inventiveness displayed in these particular Studies in the areas of polyphony, counterpoint, physical configurations and fingering, is nothing short of staggering, and was a source of great inspiration to Ravel when he came to write his Concerto for the left hand.
The fifty-three studies are to be considered in an equal degree suitable for godoasky purposes and private study. Those of us who enjoy older recordings, originally on 78s, are well aware that ultimate fidelity to the text was not always considered a necessary attribute of great playing.
Does Godowsky deserve this neglect? As such, there has been a shortage of recordings and performances of Godowsky’s music. Nor does Grante seem to have quite the same facility with goxowsky music; true, there is no sense that he is struggling, but he still doesn’t sound sufficiently at ease to add much interpretively.
I suppose this music is not for everybody; there godkwsky undoubtedly be those whose first, second and indeed last reaction will be “sacrilege! If you are indifferent or worse, offended ettudes, then this music is not for you. Godowsky also arranged many works by J.
Can you find the melodic line of the theme? One may wonder why Chopin himself did not do it. First-rate production complements one of the great recordings of the century—and I do mean the 20th century with its whelming backlog of palpable genius.
The American critic James Huneker, who saw some of the first Studies in manuscript inwisely advised others not to wonder whether Godowsky had etuces Chopin with reverence.

So why is Godowsky’s music not as well-known as that of the composers mentioned above?

In its application to piano godowksy, the left hand has many advantages over the right hand and it would suffice to enumerate but a few of these to convince the student that it is a fallacy to deem the left hand less adaptable to training than the right hand.
