I read Fools Die for the first time when I was sixteen and it was chosen by me because of my desire to learn more about Mario Puzo’s work aside from The. Praise. “Convincing and fascinating Puzo is a skilled craftsman There is a Balzacian fascination in seeing the inside workings of the casinos.”—Wall Street . Puzo obviously wants to say Big Things about survival (fools die), art vs. money, love vs. sex, and (most successfully, as in Godfather) betrayal.

Overall rating No ratings yet 0. Puzo established a name for himself as a writer jario Mob stories maroo the strength of “The Godfather”, but in truth this man also scripted the first two “Superman” features.
Puzo has a way of showing you the truth of a circumstance as if you yourself had thought it and in so doing so, removes the guilt which you may feel for thinking it. This book was great, if you don’t read it, you are going to regret it when you son is talking about it in an english class in 20 years.

You’ve successfully reported this review. Puzo is an amazing Master Magician of story-telling and “Fools Die” in my opinion is his greatest work. No matter what, no matter where, no matter when, this book will always amaze me, it will always inspire me.
Puzo wrote the first draft of the script for the disaster film Earthquake, which he was unable to continue working on due to his commitment to The Godfather Part II. It was only after reading this novel that I began to form the first thoughts in my mind as to what I would do with my life and why.
As such, it shouldn’t come as any surprise that he was also able to handle the character-driven sweeping bio style that made Robbins famous. I will acknowledge that this is a book that most people will either love or hate.
Merlyn and his brother, Artie, obey their own code of honor in the ferment of contemporary America, where law and organized crime are one and the same. Was so glad I read this, Puzo’s most personal novel.

Any information I give, for example, which character takes over the narration of 1 person, would be just a spoiler. He is one day persuaded by a corrupt colleague to start taking kick backs in return for getting the children of wealthy people out of the Vietnam draft. That’s really what Puzo Definitely took some time to get in to, but once I was in I was hooked.

Living in the Bronx with wife and kids, supporting them and his serious writing efforts with a civilian job in the Army Reserves, Merlyn is immensely appealing–whether compulsively disappearing for a gambling binge in Vegas or succumbing to the temptation of bribes from would-be Reservists: I can’t think of anyone I’d recommend this book to, but interestingly enough, I learned my mother had read it years ago.
