I can’t tell if it’s the details themselves or the way they’re shared. It seems as if the book started with one purpose in mind–finding the truth about Leviticus Blue–and the zombies became the rouse for Priest to change tactics halfway through the book.

When you look beyond the stylish trappings, you have a run-of-the-mill adventure story written in a workmanlike fashion. It also feels like it could have been 70 or 80 pages shorter.
I feel that if the book had’ve kept the spotlight and focus more often on Briar Wilkesand a bby less on her son, Zekeit would’ve easily been a full 5 stars for me. She would lose her place mid-sentence and just start talking about something else. The women in particular are strong-willed and independent.
