Biopac input to Presentation Nathalie I would like to get heart rate information from Biopac to Presentation. Biopac can communicate with Ethernet connection. Is there a possibility to take this as input to boopac online and use that info as an integer?
If not, how could i make it possible? With a parallel or serial input port? Otherwise, it would depend on the other interfacing mmp150 of Biopac, with which I’m not familiar.

I mp510 this answer from Manua, I looked at the AcqKnowledge manual here http: This appears to just be a way to display certain data being measured by Biopac on the screen in the AcqKnowledge software.
Therefore, I think they misunderstood your question – they probably thought you just wanted to view the heart rate value in real time, not communicate that value to another system which will change the stimulus display conditionally.
Manusl was unable to find any reference to Biopac features to transmit information TO other systems. You should tell them that you want to transmit the heart rate information to another system in order to dynamically change a stimulus display, and ask them if they have any capabilities for that. Since I have done some experiments with biopac and mwnual toguether, I could not resist writing a post.
The CD includes dll files for C ,matlab, etc. That was the only way for me to have access to their signals “on-line”. In that case you don’t need their Acqknowledge any more.
Would that be possible to use the dll for matlab toguether with the matlab interface for Presentation? Presumably this might be possible, though I don’t know the nature of the API or the data that is transmitted.
However, this may be beyond the capabilities of many users. ,p150 do program in Matlab but I would prefer not to do the heart rate analysis algorithm by myself.
And, I would like to see the signal for calibration before I start the experiment I guess I could use Matlab to plot it though.
If Biopac can output the calculated HR online in dll does this mean that i could input it in matlab and send it through to the presentation computer? Or, maybe just have one computer? Biopac to a computer with Matlab and Presentation that presents stimulus. Or would it cause delays in the presentaion of the experiment to have Matlab running on the same computer?
I am doing the same task in the scanner later. Jonathan, how did you use the scanner signal? What software did you use hoping for presentation? Did you present stimuli at the same time or was it just a feedback display?
Thanks for your help. I am waiting for a reply from Biopac on the “communicating to other system issue” I don’t think he misunderstood me but the answer ml150 me to.
What is the maximum frequency that these inputs can come in? You could immediately change a visual stimulus based on what you get. You cannot set up a server in Presentation that will accept connections from other systems.
I found out that Biopac might be able to present a sound that changes according to a calculated channel menu: MP – show input values – sound.
So, if I calculate the difference in HR form 1s ago to now, it might be possible to get a sound that changes according to that difference. That could be my feedback to participants. But, I would like it to be visual. So, my question is: If you can, I suppose you could calculate the frequency of the sinwave comming in and use that value to change the color of the display. Presentation can record from a microphone, but it does not analyze the wavefiles at all, or do anything with them during runtime other than save them.
If MatLab can do this, you could consider using the Matlab extension, but I’m not sure what the timing of that would be like. But, that means that I need to play the sound out loud, no?
Then it’s no solution for me because I just need the signal to be transmitted to the computer without participants hearing it. I might go for a simple triggering through the printer cable instead. I could trigger when HR goes up and when it goes down. Not really optimal because I will get no info on how much HR has changed.
But, could be acceptable. In the future I might change to the Ethernet solution though. But, the software needed to transmit HR through Ethernet from Biopac to another computer is expensive. Thank you for your help! You can avoid this box by logging in before posting.
