The book has been returned so I cannot provide you with a good laugh. Assegai as’-uh-guy is by far my favorite Wilbur Smith book. The larger story is interesting. Doesn’t matter the topic. He wanted to prove himself to his dad and the world.

The amith starts out with Lieutenant Leon Courtney on patrol with Sergeant Manyoro, a Maasai warrior, when they find an British couple brutally tortured and murdered by another nearby tribe.
I listened to the audiobook. He smirh becomes a spy of sorts. Count Otto von Meerbach, a German industrialist whose company builds aircraft and vehicles for the Kaiser’s burgeoning army.

The setting for this book is World War 2, the heroine,Saffron, determined and beautiful and strong and brave.
More than a few times our Courtney boy qssegai so damn lucky one has to wonder why Smith even bothered to include the scene at all. Sorry I cannot quote the lines that appalled me. Leon, Manyoro and Loikot use one of Otto’s planes – left over from the safari – to intercept the Assegai and jam its engines with fishing nets, forcing it to crash. The only major drawback is that there is a lot of animal killing, which I am not a fan of asxegai at all.
What can I say? Penrod then uses his influence to arrange for Graf Otto von Meerbach, a wealthy industrialist connected to the German war effort, to hire Leon’s services. Count Otto – the very worst of baddies, filthy rich, a bully and a misogonist although he loves to bed them Eva – the oh so beautiful mistress of the count, too good to be true.
Set amidst the tensions that will spark a war across continents, “Assegai” delivers the fast-paced action and vivid history that has made Wilbur Smith an internationally bestselling author. Otto tries to kill her, but is shot by Leon, who captures the rest of the crew and has Lusima’s people hide the money aboard the Assegai in the mountains. Despite his acquittal Leon’s duties do nothing to improve his falling morale and he considers quitting the army to take up elephant hunting, based on a prediction made by Lusima.
As the action unfolds in the years before and during the First World War, Assegai throws light on the historical sideshow that was the struggle between German and British colonial forces in that theater so many thousands of miles from the Somme and the Argonne. The period is caught nicely in the beginning, but as I say, from the middle to end it seems kitsch and Hollywood. Leon had never sought fame, but an expedition alongside U.
More books in this series: The relationship between Leon and Manyoro is both humorous at times and deeply moving at others. There was potential but it fell flat. Oh, and he was fun.
Smith beautifully smit the landscapes, the wi Assegai as’-uh-guy is by far my favorite Wilhur Smith book. Smith has created another wonderful piece of fiction, which works well as a continuation of the Courtney saga or as a standalone novel. I have loaned it to another member but when It is returned, I will quote here some of the romance lines.
