The richness of the portrayal is undoubtedly aided by the its biblical overtones.

Desert Isle Keeper

It sounds like a very strange book at first, and it really is when you start reading it. All my friends are animal lovers, though, and someone once theorized that I keep friends as pets. Gabriel does eventually fall for Rachel. But I don’t think I’m too far off base with this one, since the entire plot hinged around a marriage of convenience and the two main characters reconciling the differences in their personality and, yes, falling in love.

Actually pretty grown up and interesting when it forgot it was a book where all our heroes are righteous and the unrighteous get literally smited no really. By using this site, you agree to the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. Rachel is also exceeding annoying at times with her anger and contrariness. There are a great many hints about it scattered throughout ARCHANGEL, but the focus is more on the character interactions and a spattering of details about the world itself as opposed to its history.

Preview — Archangel by Sharon Shinn. The story kept me engaged till the very end and even though, most of the time, the ‘what will happen’ was pretty obvious, the ‘how it will come to pass’ was intriguing and beautiful. And her characters are distinct and likeable.

I also wanted more scenes with Rachel and Gabriel together. Sharon Shinn is a buried treasure and someone to watch.

I understand that this is a fantasy novel probably oriented toward women who also want to read a romance, so I expected the ridiculously attractive, singing angels seemingly opposite, but with a similar appeal to many as vampires probably and hook-ups. She sings beside the Archangel at the Gloria.

Archangel — All About Romance

Not once did she stop to consider Gabriel’s point of view. Samaria is richly drawn, and Shinn does not skimp on its characterization. Mostly I hate Rachel. Furthermore, her actions are driven by the fact that she has never had choices in her life and as such, she seizes the opportunity to be free arfhangel Gabriel’s clutches, despite the fact that they gradually fall in love.

I gave her half of the book to freaking change, to grow. Contemporary Fantasy Epic Fantasy Romance. The characters were compelling and deep but sometimes annoying.

Raphael, meanwhile, no longer believing in Jovah, refuses to watch over the people and encourages every sort of wickedness; to prevent the Gloria, he is willing to capture or even kill Rachel. A tale about love, music, magic, power and honor and has done it so well that I found myself escaping into her world, living it through her protagonists, so strong in their imperfections and conflicting desires. I was truly deeply delighted.

Gabriel was arrogant and Rachel was impossible. Did I mention the world-building?

Write a reader review Thank you for taking the time to write a review on archagnel book, it really makes a difference and helps readers to find their perfect book. She has won… More about Sharon Shinn. This was a disappointment. Rachel, however, proves elusive to find. This wasn’t the typical romance novel.

Yet, what pulled me in about this novel were the characters themselves. I hated the Adam thing. I wouldn’t feel grateful or romantically inclined either.

Furthermore the difficulties archzngel transition between old Raphael and new Gabriel Archangel shows how hard it is for a longstanding leader to give up privileges, power and leadership to zrchangel younger generation when the time has come.

When Gabriel arrives at the village where Rachel is supposed to live he finds everything is de Angel Gabriel, being next in the line to become Archangel and lead the annual Gloria to assure God everything is in harmony has a problem.

Secondly, the writing is gorgeous.

No, it’s not “ooh how topical” at all. Now, I don’t think I would have done anything differently, to be honest.

Archangel (Samaria, #1) by Sharon Shinn

But most pressing, Gabriel must locate his wife-to-be, his angelica, because he must marry her before the next Gloria, the ceremony at which he will officially become Archangel.

Gabriel is a strangely lovable character – strange, because he is arfhangel difficult man – while Rachel is so stubborn as to infuriate at times. Gabriel needs to marry before he may assume the role of Archangel, and this girl Rachel is the one the the god has declared to be his wife. An explosion in a nuclear power plant. The shjnn Gabriel knows he must marry, for in six months the annual Gloria must be sung by the new Archangel and his human wife to ensure the prosperity of the land.

Oh, Gabriel doesn’t like that. Her touch is light and effortless, simply drawing you along in the wake of Rachel and Gabriel, watching and caring and intrigued. But in general I did like the book and would recommend it if you can get over the annoying heroine.

While he sang, he owned her. Monster Republic Ben Horton 9. Download our Spring Fiction Sampler Now. When I first read this, I was basically young and naive. In Shinn’s hands it really isn’t. LOVE this series so much.

I only wish Gabriel and Rachel had resolved their differences earlier; I do love to spend time with literary couples who respond in less antagonistic ways to each other.

I’m a new fan of Shinn!
