It prompted me to read Samarkand which was glorious. Les enfants terribles Jean Cocteau. The second half of the story documents the efforts of a fictional American named Benjamin O. Romantic in many ways, sensuous and pleasurable, it tells us about the ‘other’, the mysterious east, that might not be as mysterious and incomprehensible as we still think though – sadly amij with less romance and more fear.
