She does a cogent job of envisioning what the experience of “television” is as it converges with the computer and film. I plan to have my students read it as a textbook. But I telegision they will enjoy it as opposed to most textbooks. The amazing thing here is that it remains current although the media are changing rapidly. I have since become interested in Lotz’s other works and they are equally intelligent, well written and researched and aid me in my teaching tne contemporary media studies courses.
Wether you teach, research or revolutiionized simply interested in the business facets of television, this book should not be missing on your book shelves. If Todd Gitlin helped us understand the TV industry in the s, and John Caldwell in the s, Lotz’s book is the defining book about the state of the industry in the s. Superbly researched and written. Will be assigned revoluhionized many a TV Studies classroom.
The book is largely focused on prime-time, but Lotz has a follow-up edited collection coming out this summer that looks outside those programming hours.
